One does not need to look up the Afghan wind hounds in books, but one must experience them. In books one speaks concerning a distant, stubborn and raising with difficulty dog. We have now from 29-05-2007 Afghans, and the books which we have read, each speaks the truth for itself. Bud we experience it as a dog with character, but also as a dog which listens to others. Also it is a dog which can be very affectionate but very independent. But it is a dog that needs leadership, otherwise he himself takes the control. We have the impression that there where it concerns giving control to the dog, this contributes that he don’t shows that behaviour such as written in many of the books. Our conclusion is:
It is a very kind dog, with much character and reserved to others but not distant. This is only reach according to us with: Consequent education and a clear order the family. Is this not the case then the Afghan easy takes over this LEADER role. But this is likewise for many other races. However, the consequent education does not need a hard hand because then the dog will react very nervously also to others. If one chooses for an Afghan: Maybe it’s a better choice to take two, ore more. It is well for the dog but also for the owner’s. They can spend all energy in playing with each other. We experience it still as a beautiful dog with lots of character and own initiative and nevertheless terrible affectionately.
